Job Description:
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the
independent operation of sonographic equipment and performing and
communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.
The Sonographer always maintains a high standard of medical ethics
and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and
knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they
evolve.SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:Performs clinical
assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.Uses cognitive
sonographic skills to identify, record and adapt procedures as
appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and
images.Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to
accurately differentiate between normal and pathological
findings.Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information,
medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate
physician.Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and
physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographers
care.Assists with the daily operations of the sonographic
department.Performs other work-related duties as assigned.Performs
all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending
physician.Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring
physicians when required, according to established
procedures.Coordinates with other team members to ensure
appropriate patient care is provided.Identifies patient care issues
as they occur and takes appropriate action to resolve
them.Organizes daily work schedule and performs related clerical
duties as required.Reports equipment failures to the appropriate
supervisor or team member.OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job may require
traveling to other CARTI locations.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
NoneEDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:High school
diploma.Graduate of a formal accredited Diagnostic Medical
Sonography Program.Current Registered Diagnostic Medical
Sonographer (RDMS) credential required.Current BLS
required.EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:Minimum one or
more years experience and/or training with graduate
sonographerKnowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform
testing including body mechanics and patient movementSkill in using
computer network system competently to process patient and
department informationSkill in positioning patients properlySkill
in identifying equipment problems and corrects or notifies
supervisorAbility to work in a cooperative nature within and
outside department with staff, patients, and familiesAbility to
explain procedures clearly and simply to patientsREASONING
ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety
of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule
form.INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:Must interact and communicate both
verbally and in written form.Must interact and exchange information
regarding patients with physicians and other departmental
personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while
respecting the confidentiality of patient information.PHYSICAL
