Position Summary:

This program is designed to provide students a management training internship program that involves increasing responsibility based on the participants' interest. The purpose of this program is to immerse the student in an all-encompassing business so they can see all aspects, from daily operations to being involved in long term goal setting and learning the long-term implications of daily activities and decisions. By the end of the Management Internship Program, students will have gained exposure to many aspects of Aramark Higher Education business operations within dining services including retail dining, catering, residential, concessions, convenience stores, marketing, accounting, etc. at University of Central Arkansas.

At the successful completion of your Management Internship, we're already thinking about you for full time career opportunities with Aramark after graduation as the internship is a feeder program for our Accelerate to Leadership (A2L) early careers program.

Internship Overview

The internship period consists of one school semester, with anticipation to extend into a year-long program or permanent position. During this time, interns will receive hands-on training in all areas of dining services, developmental management projects, training tools, and work with the staff in planning and implementing programs and projects. Prior to beginning the internship, students should have three written goals or expectations they would like to receive out of the program. Management and interns will discuss the goals to enhance the learning experience, so the student will receive the most out of their internship possible and to maximize their potential within the industry.

    Intern Rotation Positions

    Management Interns (M.I.) will centralize on one department or location at a time to enhance their knowledge in each setting. Students will be able to focus on what makes the department run successfully, while learning the 'behind-the-scenes' details that are essential to the industry.

    Operations - M.I. will gain operational experience by learning operational and brand standards, conducting pre and post service meetings, opening and closing the location, scheduling employees for shifts, ordering product, and counting inventory.

    Human Resources - M.I. will play a role in maintaining positive employee relations by participating in employee recognition programs and providing on-going coaching and performance feedback to employees. M.I. will participate in the progressive discipline process, by creating documentation and participating in coaching sessions throughout the year. M.I. will assist with the staffing process by screening applications, interviewing, and completing new hire paperwork. Also, M.I. will have the opportunity to develop and assist with location training.

    Marketing - M.I. will gain marketing experience by properly displaying food product for advertising, participating in key marketing events each semester at the locations, implementation of LTO programs and merchandizing.

    Accounting - M.I. will gain accounting experience by performing cash handling duties which include daily drops, counting of safe, cashier/safe audits, change orders, etc.

    Leadership - M.I. projects. Students will partner with the Location Manager at their assigned location to identify a problem or area for improvement. Throughout the year the student will develop and implement a solution for the problem. Results of the project will be presented to the management team at a management staff meeting.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications for Internship
    • Required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week including weekends
    • Must work 1 recruiting event per year (Career fair, Student Orientation, Student fair, etc.)
    • Required to work 4 manager events per semester (Homecoming, University Event, catered events etc.)
    • Must possess a strong desire to pursue a career in university food service or hospitality management. Preferred- supervisory experience with ability to motivate, high-quality standards, as well as exceptional knowledge of food service procedures and practices
    • Must have outstanding communication, human relations, and interpersonal skills
    • Requires ability to work some early mornings, late nights, and weekends.
    • Must shadow at least one member of the leadership team
    • Must become ServSafe certified
