Prepares and splices fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor
environments. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Splices fiber
optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
Constructs a proper splice case, including but not limited to
grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing. Prepares
and maintains accurate splicing records, schematics, and diagrams.
Performs work in accordance with industry standards and adheres to
safety procedures. Maintains control of activities surrounding the
assigned work site(s). Supports project timelines and provides
accurate feedback. Job Qualifications: 2 years of technical
education or training required. 2 years of field experience as a
telecommunications technician required. Working knowledge of
telecommunications infrastructure required. Familiarity with fiber
optic cable and splice enclosures required. Must have a valid
driver’s license and a clean driving record. Travel will be
required and may be up to 80%, depending on the business needs.
Ability to work long hours involving overtime and weekends, as
necessary. Ability to respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation.
Must be able to work emergency schedules during natural disasters
and network outages. Individuals must have a valid driver's license
and clean driving record meeting the company and insurance policy
conditions. Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication
skills. Service orientation. Active listening. Time management.
Ability to pay close attention to detail and make good sound
decisions based on information given. Ability to work multiple
tasks in a stressful environment while maintaining a positive and
pleasant manner with others. Ability to handle a large volume of
work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to identify and troubleshoot fiber issues. Complex problem
solving. Ability to use fusion splicing equipment and test
equipment, including an OTDR. Ability to read, create and maintain
splicing schematics and diagrams. Ability to read effectively from
a computer screen, sampling device and/or paper copy. Ability to
drive and back up a truck and trailer proficiently. Must be able to
stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces. Position
requires working outdoors in all types of weather. Ability to climb
and work at elevations (i.e., from ladders, poles, lift trucks)
exceeding 18 feet. Able to use a shovel and post hold digger.
Ability to work at heights up to 50'. Must be able to climb poles.
Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day. Overhead lifting of
over 20 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces (i.e., attics,
crawl spaces, utility holes). Physical Demands: While performing
the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use
hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk
or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and
sit; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee
must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision depth
perception, and ability to focus. The conditions listed are
